Perinatal Mental Health Therapy
You can love your baby and still not love how you feel.
Compassionate, real-life support for everything no one quite prepares you for during pregnancy and postpartum, in Huntington, NY and virtually across NY and FL.
Perinatal Therapy for When Motherhood Feels Harder Than Expected
Maybe you’re pregnant and finding yourself more anxious than excited, or you’re newly postpartum and wondering why everyone else seems to be handling this better than you are. Maybe you love your baby fiercely and still feel overwhelmed, disconnected, touched out, resentful, or like you’ve completely lost yourself somewhere along the way. There’s a lot of pressure to feel grateful and happy during this season, which can make the harder feelings even harder to admit.
Perinatal mental health support isn’t about judging you, telling you how you “should” feel, or handing you a checklist of ways to be a better mom.
It’s a place to talk honestly about the anxiety, postpartum depression, intrusive thoughts, identity changes, relationship shifts, and exhaustion that can come with pregnancy and new parenthood. You don’t have to minimize what you’re feeling just because you know how lucky you are.
Support Through the Transition to Motherhood
You also don’t have to white-knuckle your way through this season. Perinatal therapy can help you make sense of what’s happening, reconnect with yourself, and feel more grounded in this new version of your life. You can be a loving mom and need support, and you deserve a space where both can be true.
How Perinatal Therapy Helps
Before therapy, you may feel…
- Like you’re supposed to be enjoying this season, but you’re struggling to get through it.
- Constantly anxious, overwhelmed, or worried something will go wrong.
- Guilty for needing a break, wanting space, or not loving every moment.
- Like you’ve lost pieces of yourself since becoming a mom.
- Touched out, depleted, resentful, or disconnected from your partner.
- Like everyone needs something from you, and there’s nothing left for yourself.
With therapy, you can begin to…
- Feel more grounded and less consumed by anxiety and overwhelm.
- Make space for your feelings without judging yourself for having them.
- Reconnect with the person you were, and make room for who you’re becoming.
- Feel more confident in yourself and your ability to navigate motherhood.
- Communicate your needs and boundaries without carrying quite so much guilt.
- Experience motherhood as something you can live through, rather than simply survive.
Perinatal Mental Health Therapy
Perinatal therapy is a space to slow down and make sense of everything that comes with pregnancy, postpartum, and becoming a parent. Ready to feel a little less alone in it?
Is Perinatal Therapy the Right Fit for You?
You don’t have to be falling apart to deserve support. Perinatal therapy is for the woman who knows something feels harder than it should, wants a place to be honest about it, and is ready to make this season feel a little more manageable.
Probably, if you:
Feel like you’re struggling more than you’re letting anyone see.
Love your baby but don’t love how you have been feeling lately.
Are overwhelmed by anxiety, intrusive thoughts, guilt, or the pressure to get everything right.
Feel like you’ve lost touch with yourself since becoming a parent.
Want support that feels warm, honest, and human - not clinical or judgmental.
Probably not, if you:
Are looking for someone to tell you the “right” way to parent.
Want therapy to focus only on your baby or parenting and not on you as a whole person.
Aren’t open to looking at the thoughts, feelings, patterns, and experiences contributing to how you’re feeling.
Are looking for a quick fix without wanting to engage in the therapeutic process.
Prefer a highly structured, advice-driven approach rather than a collaborative one.
You don’t have to know exactly what’s wrong before you reach out.
Sometimes knowing “I’m not feeling like myself” is more than enough to start the conversation.
What Working Together Looks Like
Take a Breath
We start by creating space for everything you’ve been carrying, without judgment and without having to make it sound better than it is. You’ll have a place to be honest about what’s feeling hard and begin to feel a little less alone in it.
Make Sense of It
Together, we’ll get curious about what’s underneath the anxiety, overwhelm, guilt, or disconnection. You’ll start to understand your patterns, your needs, and how this major life transition may be affecting you in ways you didn’t expect.
Find Your Way Back to You
We’ll work toward helping you feel more grounded, confident, and connected to yourself again. The goal isn’t to become a perfect mom: it’s to feel like you while making room for this new part of your life.
Pregnancy and new parenthood come with enough questions already. Here are some of the things people often wonder before reaching out for perinatal therapy. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to contact me.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is perinatal mental health therapy?
Perinatal therapy supports you through the emotional and mental changes that can happen during pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition into parenthood. It can help with anxiety, depression, overwhelm, identity changes, intrusive thoughts, relationship challenges, and simply not feeling like yourself.
Do I need to have postpartum depression or anxiety to come to therapy?
Not at all. You don’t need a diagnosis or to be in crisis to deserve support. If you’re struggling, feeling unlike yourself, or finding this transition harder than you expected, that’s enough.
Can I come to therapy while I’m still pregnant?
Absolutely. Support during pregnancy can help you navigate anxiety, changing relationships, fears about birth or parenthood, and the emotional transition that begins long before the baby arrives.
What if I love my baby but I’m still struggling?
Both can be true. Loving your baby doesn’t mean you have to love every part of motherhood, and having a hard time doesn’t make you a bad mom.
What if I’m embarrassed by what I’m feeling?
You can say the uncomfortable stuff here. Intrusive thoughts, resentment, anger, guilt, fear, and ambivalence can be incredibly difficult to talk about, but you won’t be judged for being honest about your experience.
I feel like I’ve completely lost myself since becoming a mom. Is that normal?
The transition into motherhood can bring enormous changes to your identity, relationships, body, routines, and sense of self. Therapy can give you space to grieve what has changed while also figuring out who you are becoming.
Can therapy help with postpartum anxiety?
Yes. We can work together to understand what’s fueling the anxiety, learn ways to regulate your nervous system, and address the deeper patterns that may be keeping you stuck in worry and hypervigilance.
What if I’m struggling with my relationship after having a baby?
You’re not alone. Becoming parents can change communication, intimacy, responsibilities, and expectations in ways neither partner anticipated. Individual therapy can give you space to work through your experience and understand how this transition is affecting your relationship.
Will you tell me how to be a better mom?
Nope. I’m not here to hand you a parenting rulebook or tell you what you “should” be doing. I’m here to help you understand yourself, your needs, and what might help you feel more grounded and supported.
Can I do perinatal therapy virtually?
Yes. Virtual therapy can be a particularly convenient option during pregnancy and new parenthood, when getting out of the house can feel like an entire event. Virtual services are available across NY and FL.
What if I don’t know exactly what I need?
That’s completely okay. You don’t need to arrive with a diagnosis or a perfectly organized explanation. You can simply tell me what’s been feeling hard, and we’ll figure out the rest together.
How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?
The relationship matters. I encourage you to reach out and have a conversation so you can get a feel for my approach, ask questions, and decide whether working together feels like the right fit.
